What Audiences are Saying about Interstellar Cinderella
A Perfect Introduction to Theater!
The show was beyond fabulous, clever, just an incredible experience! The acting was amazing. My grandchildren loved every second and so did I! The costumes, special effects, and the interpretation of the book was marvelous. A perfect intro to theater.
— NYC ParentA Princess Story We Can Get Behind!
Finally a princess story we can get behind! Loved the message of female empowerment and aptitude in STEM fields. Thought it was wonderful that the story has Cinderella saying no to marriage but yes to her dream job. Marriage is nice but not the end all be all. The cast was also stellar vocally, especially Cinderella. She has the voice of an angel. Such a joy to watch.
— NYC MomA Charming Production Our Entire Family Enjoyed!
This was a charming production that our entire family enjoyed. It was great watching one of our favorite books come to life on stage – I think that made it more special, and yet there were still plenty of fun surprises. We didn’t know it would be a musical, so we were doubly delighted! The songs were catchy and sweet, and the performers were talented and seemed like they were having fun with their roles. It was a memorable experience, and we look forward to seeing more productions in the future.
— NYC MomOut of this World!
The show was so original and lots of fun! And of course, music by Laurie Berkner, you can’t go wrong. We also saw Wanda’s Monster and The Amazing Adventures of Harvey & the Princess and thought Interstellar Cinderella was out of this world!
— NYC DadMy Daughter was Mesmerized and Inspired!
Interstellar Cinderella was amazing! Thank you for bringing the classic fairytale, now with a new age twist, to life for the children. My daughter was mesmerized and inspired!
— NYC MomBlast Off with a New Take on a Classic Story
What does a classic fairy tale look like in the year 3017? If the production of Interstellar Cinderella is any indication, the future of a good story is safe, with positivity and learning as well as an upgrade to surroundings that revolve around rocket engines, robots and very flashy space suits.
The show targets children aged 4–8, but the script, acting, and musical performances are good enough to keep older kids and adults thoroughly entertained as well.
— Little Kid, Big CityFilled with Fun
New twists on the old tale include space travel, a robotic mouse-bot, hi-tech fashion, and even a fairy god-robot. With children’s music legend Laurie Berkner supplying the music and lyrics, this show was filled with fun from beginning to end.
Interstellar Cinderella is truly the tale of an independent heroine who is still light years beyond her time. Her story is presented in this fun, easy-to-follow musical that both children and parents are able to appreciate and enjoy.
The futuristic setting creates a whole fairy-tale with its own space-age complications that the characters creatively navigate to get to a stellar ending for most involved.
— Scherrie Donaldson, Space Nation OrbitThere’s A Lot to Love About This Cinderella
There’s a lot to love about this Cinderella. She’s smart, crafty, a problem solver, and more interested in scientific inquiry than getting married young
The cast is excellent, with lovely singing voices. Meadow Tien Nguy is plucky and winsome in the title role. Sam McLellan is enjoyable as both the Prince and Cinderella’s Yoda-syntaxed robotic assistant Mergatroyd.
Interstellar Cinderella is a fairy tale you can feel good about showing your kids.
— Jordana Williams, New York Theatre ReviewA Brand New Way to Watch One of My Favorite Fairy Tales!
I can tell you that THIS Cinderella is a super cool modern girl who is DEFINITELY worth getting to know – no matter if you’re a boy or a girl, young or “not so young.” So fasten your (rocket) seatbelts and get ready for a very adventurous fairy tale!
Right from the first song I loved this show and knew it was going to be really fun, interesting and a brand new way to watch one of my favorite fairy tales.
This show has everything – a great story, a great lesson, excellent acting, singing and dancing…you really need to go see it…You will definitely love it because Interstellar Cinderella is out of this world!
The songs and the play are fantastic. Broadway quality – without the Broadway price tag. Thanks, as always, to New York City Children’s Theater, Deborah Underwood, Laurie Berkner and all the actors for a great show that’s both kid AND adult friendly – one that teaches us all that we can make our own magic, and that not all fairy tales have to end with marrying the prince!
— Waverly and Alexa, Kids News NYCOut Of This World
I took my kids to the opening matinee of family musical Interstellar Cinderella, from the creators of Wanda’s Monster and The Amazing Adventures of Harvey and the Princess, and the results were out of this world.
This delightful, high-energy production has enough glowing spaceships, out-of-this-world costumes, and catchy musical numbers from the queen of kid rock, Laurie Berkner, to keep even a boisterous 4-year-old glued to his seat and wide-eyed for 50 minutes.
Created by dynamic creative duo Barbara Zinn Krieger and Laurie Berkner, Interstellar Cinderella lives up to NYC Children’s Theater’s standard of outstanding productions for the whole family.

— Brown Girl GumboBest Family Theater in NYC this Fall!
A HUGE thank you to our friends at Mommy Poppins for including Interstellar Cinderella on their list of the Best Family Theater in NYC this fall!
The queen of little-kid rock, Laurie Berkner, wrote the songs for this new musical from New York City Children’s Theater. Based on Deborah Underwood’s picture book of the same name, this is a feminist take on the old fairy tale with Cinderella as an engineer hoping to revolutionize space travel and impress her prince with her new invention: a hyper warp speed engine. But when Cinderella is undermined by her evil stepmother, she realizes she has to save herself.
Thanks for the Mention, Playbill!
Thank you to Playbill for helping announce the news that Laurie Berkner wrote the music and lyrics for our upcoming musical Interstellar Cinderella on their website!
If kids of the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s had Raffi, kids of the 21st century have Laurie Berkner. Hailed by The New York Times as “the Adele of the preschool crowd,” Berkner expands beyond her usual stroller-pushing audience for a bit of an older crowd—if still geared towards families.
Berkner has written original songs for the upcoming original musical Insterstellar Cinderella, presented by New York City Children’s Theatre. The production will open November 18 at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row. Berkner says she’s excited to, once again, stretch her muscles and write for the theatre in her third time working with NYCCT.
