DOROTHY

(Spoken)

You know your friend is a pigeon, right?

PALMER

I know, but when we laugh, and boy do we laugh, I’m laughing sincerely and at no one’s expense.
Though I don’t speak bird, and he doesn’t speak, we communicate clearly, somehow it makes sense.
All the pressure, all the dread,
the judge and jury in my head
They melt away
when we’re at play.

And I don’t care what the guys say about him,
don’t care how crazy I sound.
When he’s around, I feel more myself than I’ve ever been
Like I finally found where I fit in.

DOROTHY

(Spoken)

Huh. Pigeons are a really smart! This says they’re one of the few animals that can recognize themselves in a mirror!

PALMER

They’re pretty good goalies too.

DOROTHY
Says here they mate for life. That explains the two of you.

PALMER
Nipper blocks the pass again! He’s done it! I can’t believe it, for the first time ever, the World Cup goes to Wingland!

[Sung]
DOROTHY
It’s weird, I didn’t intend – I mean, does anyone intend, to have a pigeon as a friend?
Who cares what’s weird or not? I don’t mind a friend who doesn’t talk a lot.

PALMER
All the bullies, all the fears.

DOROTHY
My disappointing formative years don’t matter now.

PALMER/DOROTHY
They’re gone somehow.

PALMER
And I don’t care what the guys say about you, don’t care how crazy I sound.

PALMER/DOROTHY
When you’re around, I feel more myself than I’ve ever been
like I finally found where I fit in.

DOROTHY
Moving here was a prison term with no parole,
doomed to live with cretins, jocks and jerks.

PALMER
I could never find someone who liked to have my kind of fun,
Funny how the universe works.

DOROTHY/PALMER
Funny how this gang totally works!

There would be somebody who liked me for me, but now there’s you.
And I like you for you too!

And I don’t care what the world thinks about us,
Don’t care what people will say cause every day,
I feel more myself than I’ve ever been
like I finally found where I fit in,
I finally found where I fit in,

I finally found where I fit in.
