We asked some of the creative team:

What Inspired Your My First Nutcracker Design?

I watched videos of the Nutcracker and read about female explorers in history. This helped me find a balance between the classical work and our Clara-Marie’s adventurous spirit.

Melissa Riker

Director and Choreographer, My First Nutcracker

I love the distinctly different places that the prince and clara explore, and we try to shape the environment to reflect their unique characteristics!

Lighting Designer, My First Nutcracker

Snowflakes, flowers, dew, candy, and imagination!

Annie Simon

Costume Designer, My First Nutcracker

For this set design I took inspiration from watercolors, as well as classic arts and crafts. I wanted the set to feel painterly, as if it was coming out of Clara Marie’s imagination.
