What’s Your Favorite Family Meal?

Activity and Interviews
Emily loves her Abuelita's tortillas! We asked the cast to share their favorite family meal with us!
Creative Clubhouse KIDS

We asked the cast:

What’s your favorite family meal?

When I went vegan six years ago, the support I received from my mother and brothers was incredible. We had to learn a whole new way of cooking but in doing so it gave us an excuse as adults to spend time together in the kitchen again! It’s never about just the food, its about preparing a meal with care, and sitting down after to enjoy what you have accomplished together.

Martha

I loved my grandmother’s cooking growing up, but one thing her and I share is that we both have a sweet tooth. We love baking together, pies, cakes, you name it!

Jasmine Maldonado

Abuelita

Sancocho is my favorite meal to make as a family. The stew with and of itself, is meant to be eating in communion with other people. I love that it brings us all to the table.

Emily

I love making tortillas at home with my sister. At Christmas, we make tamales and it takes an entire day!

¡Corre, Abuelita, Run!

It’s the first Sunday in November, and Emily’s Abuelita is running in the NYC marathon! Emily made a sign that reads “¡Corre, Abuelita, Run!” that she wants to hold up as Abuelita runs through the finish line – but she needs your help to travel through the five boroughs and get to Central Park in time to celebrate!

Conceived, written, and directed by Sammy Lopez, ¡Corre, Abuelita, Run! is an interactive bilingual, Spanish and English, performance that uses language, music, puppetry, and movement to take your youngest audience members on a journey through the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of New York City.

If you enjoyed this activity, please consider making a donation to New York City Children’s Theater.

Your gift will enable us to continue the critical work we are doing right now and enable us to continue planning for the future.
