New York City Children’s Theater will host a free PRIDE Creative Clubhouse Stories class for children ages 3-8 on Thursday, June 24th at 3pm to celebrate PRIDE Month!

New York City Children’s Theater Teaching Artist Caitlyn will celebrate Pride through video, theatre activities, and more. Explore the book, Julian at the Wedding, the unique colors of the rainbow, and celebrate our identities with a PROUD dance party.

Registration is free, but space is limited. You can sign up for the class by visiting NYCCT’s website.

The free event is the culmination of NYCCT’s month-long Proud Read Aloud series! Each week, NYCCT has released a pre-recorded read-aloud featuring guest teaching artists from the LGBTQ+ community sharing their favorite children’s books featuring LGBTQ+ narratives. Readings include What Riley Wore, Jacob’s Room to Choose, Auntie Uncle, and more! Explore the read-aloud series on our website

Creative Clubhouse Stories is a digital, interactive, & accessible storytime class that mixes books you love with theater games your little one will love – without having to leave home! Created in response to COVID-19, the class explores books with big topics through theater games. At NYCCT, our goal is to foster empathetic, creative, and independent thinkers who make a positive impact on their world. That’s why, when picking books for Creative Clubhouse Stories, we picked stories that teach emotional intelligence, community building, and responsible decision-making in service of our mission to promote children’s literacy and social development through arts-in-education programming and professional theater productions.

The class is run by NYCCT Artistic Associate and Teaching Artist Caitlyn McCain. Caitlyn McCain is a New York City-based actor, singer, and teaching artist. Originally from SoCal, Caitlyn moved to NYC to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she graduated with a BFA in Drama in 2019. During her senior year, Caitlyn had the privilege of working as an Education Apprentice with NYCCT and quickly fell in love with the power and purpose of teaching artist work, specifically within the neurodiverse community. She is now thrilled to be working in a wide range of student communities as an official member of the NYCCT TA team! In addition to performing and working with little ones, Caitlyn teaches in the Voice and Speech department at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting. She is the co-founder of the Adler Youth Big/Little Mentorship Program, which helps guide young artists on their path through high school into college and beyond.

In 1996, New York City Children’s Theater began as the family theater and education program of the Tony Award-winning Vineyard Theatre. It became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2001. New York City Children’s Theater produces original plays and musicals for young audiences that ask big questions, incite curiosity, and spark spirited discussions among kids, parents, and teachers. Notable productions include A Band of Angels, directed by Colman Domingo (winner: Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Show); Interstellar Cinderella, Music and Lyrics by Laurie Berkner and Book by Barbara Zinn Kreiger; This is Sadie, directed and choreographed by Stephanie Klemons.

For more than 24 years, our local and nationally recognized arts-in-education programs and professional theater productions have served over 395,000 children and adults across all five boroughs and surrounding communities in the tri-state area.
